1. Turlington being crowded during class change in the afternoon
This occurs because UF is a very populated school and there are thousands of students on campus at every time; this makes it that when class ends or right before class, burlington will be very crowded.
2. Driving to Southwest Recreation Center in the afternoon, around 3:15pm, the traffic through campus
3:15pm is in the middle of the day and right when most students are finishing with classes. Driving to southwest and driving through campus makes me stop at many cross walks because of students crossing the street.
3. Parking on UF campus being extremely limited for students living off campus
With UF having thousands of students and a majority of them living off campus, there is no way for the university to have enough parking for the entire student body. Even though this is still understandable, I feel that UF should attempt to make parking somewhat more decent for students.
4. Archer Road being extremely packed around 5pm and taking three times the amount of time to travel down
Archer Road is one of the most widely used roads by students, teachers and Alachua county residents (ACR). Archer road leads to I-75 which many teachers use, students and ACR's use Archer to get to grocery stores and restaurants.
5. Not having enough seats in the classrooms at UF to meet the number of students in class
There are many times that UF will have classes that don't have enough seats in a classroom for the number of students that are signed up for the class. While UF does not go around to every classroom to make sure it has enough seats for the student, there should be a way for teachers to inform them in order to get a new classroom for the students.
6. Publix being crowded on the weekends when everyone is doing their weekly grocery shopping
Weekends are a major time for students to go on their weekly grocery shopping trip. After driving on Archer to get to publix, it is even worse when you get to publix and have difficulty finding parking and the aisles are super crowded.
7. When I go to get a spoon in my apartment and their are no clean ones left and none of my roommates have started the dishwasher
All roommates are a little selfish and often when one finishes something, they don't immediately think that someone else might need it momentarily after them.
8. Every month when we receive an email from our landlord telling us that we went over on our electricity bill
Our apartment complex rent comes with a certain amount of coverage on electricity bill and when we signed our lease they said it is very rare for residents to go over the amount allowed. However, ever since moving in our roommates have gone at least $30 over.
9. All the ellipticals and treadmills being used at Southwest when I go to workout in the afternoon
Winter break just ending and the next break being spring break, many people are trying to work on their spring break bodies. This makes the gym be more crowded than usual and the machines I use tend to be filled at all times when I go to the gym.
10. When my boss doesn't email me back about a work assignment until after I leave work for the day
Leaving work and knowing that you were waiting for your boss to email you back in order to finish an assignment and as soon as you get home and check your email he has responded. While your boss is very busy it just sucks when you aren't able to finish an assignment because you aren't at work and don't have the necessary materials.
11. The time when my phone is about to die during class but I still have 30 minutes until I then have to walk home from class
Using my phone during my walk to class and the beginning of class often leads it to dying earlier in the day. Making sure I am more cautious with the amount of time I am spending on my phone will lead to the battery lasting longer.
12. When the bus app says the bus will be there in 5 minutes and you are waiting for it for you 8:30am class and it doesn't come for 15 minutes
Almost every student at UF has at some point complained about the bus system at UF. The app is rarely correct because it often does not take into account the traffic and stop lights that could cause the bus to stop. Also many drivers take 5 minute breaks and the time does not include that.
13. The times that my phone says I have LTE service but nothing will load, happens often since I have T-mobile
In today's day in age having internet on you at all times is important for college students. Having T-mobile often makes having internet difficult because they do not have the best service, even though my phone says I have LTE it often will not load anything on the internet.
14. Almost daily when the trashcan in my apartment is full and none of the roommates will take it out so I end up taking it out
Living with four people is difficult and can often cause the place to get dirty and the trash to get full immediately. It takes a lot for people to decide to take the trash out, especially since we live on the fourth floor and I know I often do not want to take it out myself.
15. When I go to have a glass a milk or soda and one of my roommates finished it without buying another
Sharing is an important thing you must do in college. One refrigerator for four different people is difficult and nearly impossible. We try to share as much as we can but it gets crazy when one person finishes something early in the day and doesn't go to the store to replace it until the next day.
16. Coming home late at night and when I go to unlock the door the door already being unlocked because my roommate didn't lock it
Safety is important and I know it can often be forgotten when you are walking into an apartment to not lock it behind it. Living in a college town it is scary to be in an apartment not locked, especially with all the robberies Gainesville was having at the beginning of this semester.
17. When I go to do my laundry and my roommate has not moved their laundry from the washer to the dryer yet
Laundry is a pain to do especially with the crazy schedules of college students. I understand that I, along with my roommates, often throw our laundry in, go to class, come home switch it and then leave again. Hectic schedules are difficult to find a time to stay at home for the 2 hours it takes to do the washer and dryer.
18. Making iced coffee and then the coffee melts all the ice which then makes it watery tasting
Iced coffee is one of the best and worst drinks to have. It is the best when you order it at a restaurant that specifically has coffee in the fridge to pour over ice, however, when you make it at home it is a different story. I often end up pouring boiling hot coffee over ice which then causes the ice to melt immediately and the coffee to taste watery.
19. When my apartment complex says the furniture is good for moving in and the chairs continuously break and maintenance never fully fixes it
Moving into an apartment in college they all are said to be fully furnished but when you move into the one I did, the furniture is all broken and un-usuable. Calling out maintenance and they inform us that the furniture is just old and can not be fixed.
20. Taking a shower and when you get out of the shower the day after doing laundry and realizing you didn't take a new towel out
Showering is an important part of college and washing your towels makes sure that when you shower you stay clean. Often after washing your towels you will fold them and put them away not thinking that you no longer have a towel hanging for when you get out of the shower. When you are rushed you'll jump into the shower and when you realize there is no towel there it's too late.
Thinking of the 20 things that bug me was very difficult. I try to be the type of person that if something bothers me, to just push it to the back of my mind. Trying to think of 20 things that bug me made me have to relive all of the instances that do. When I rethink of instances that bug me, it makes me get more annoyed at the situation.
Hey Leigha,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your bug list! I feel reflected to some of the issues you stated on your list. In fact, I wrote about a very similar problem as you did in number twenty. Every time I wash my clothes I either forget to take them to the dryer or I simply forget them out of the dryer, and when it’s time to look for what I’m I going to wear for that day, I realize I forgot to take them out and it really bothers me. I believe that it is time for innovations that can make our lives easier. Here is the link to my blog http://alejandroentrepreneurship.blogspot.com/2016/01/my-bug-list.html
You’ll find in my list that bug number 10 is almost the same as your number 20!
It is amazing how we can see we have similar problems and I am sure that a solution for our problem will come out very soon!
Hi Leigha! I found your list extremely amusing. I agree with you on 100% of these issues. It seems that many of your "bugs" had to do with UF being overcrowded which is something that I think about ALL the time. I live off campus as well and the parking situation is terrible but I'm thankful for all the great public transportation options here in Gainesville. Also, roommate problems have taken over my life for the past year and a half. I have decided that after college (if I can afford it) I will live alone forever. I didn't sign up to be a maid or a babysitter! Go check out my list too and let me know what you think!
