Entrepreneurship was never something I thought I had ever taken part in; however, after learning in this class that entrepreneurship can be anything from starting a company to being confident in yourself and leading a group project I would saying being the captain of the Varsity Tennis team at my high school senior year was my first insight to entrepreneurship. During my time as captain I had to lead the team during practice and before matches and create a fundraiser in order to raise money for the tennis team. I was able to get the team together and we baked brownies and cookies and decorate them to look like tennis balls and sold them during lunch and after school. The organization and figuring out how much to charge based on how much we were spending on the ingredients was difficult but also a learning experience.
Enrolling in ENT3003 was in order to see if I had an interest in obtaining an entrepreneurship minor. I have always been interested in creating new things but never truly understood what entrepreneurship entitled.
Below is a photo of me on the tennis team senior year with the girl who was going to be captain the next year once I was in college.
I think it's interesting how you got exposed to entrepreneurship through sports. High School sports are probably one of the first times you have independence to start a project like the fundraiser you did. I also signed up for the class to see if an entrepreneurship minor is worth pursuing. The word entrepreneurship is thrown around a lot, but finding a real definition of the word is difficult.
ReplyDeleteHi Leigha,
ReplyDeleteI think that it is cool that you were able to experience entrepreneurship in high school. Through hard work, you were able to achieve certain goals with your fundraiser. As I stated in my blog, my Uncle Johnny is an entrepreneur and has worked hard to pursue his dream. Through hard work and dedication, like my uncle, I think that you will be successful in any entrepreneurship that you dedicate yourself to. Experiencing entrepreneurship at an early stage is a great advantage. Good luck to you!
