Idea Napkin No. 1

1) I am Leigha Hinds and I am a junior at the University of Florida doing a combined Master's and Bachelor's degree in Sports Management. I aspire to work for the marketing department of a professional football or basketball team in the future. With this business adventure I want to give sporting fans what they have always hoped and dreamed for; a place to have scores of all sporting events from high school to professional.

2) I feel that this venture will benefit fans and parents of athletes. It will allow you to customize the teams and players you want to follow and give you notifications if anything were to happen, good and bad, with them. Sports fans are always looking for the perfect app to follow all sporting events and players. This app will do exactly that.

3) I am offering this for any individual that is a sports fan in the United States. While this will follow MLS teams that are in other countries, it will not follow any other sports (cricket, sledding, etc) that are not in the USA.

4) Customers will care about this because if they are true sports fans it will give them all the information they have ever hoped for in an app.

5) I will have the ability to follow high school, collegiate and professional sports. Clearly the high school following will not be as large or in-depth but it will still be offered for everyone to take part in watching.

I believe that all of these elements fit together. I am hoping to appeal to sports fans from around the United States that enjoy all types of sports. From high school to professional there is always someone that wants updates on the sports that are occurring. One thing that I will have to fine tune is which high school sports I will follow. Clearly it is impossible to follow all high school sports (basketball, football, softball, baseball, track & field, tennis, lacrosse, etc). I think altogether though this would be a great investment.

  1. Hey Leigha! I actually want to do the exact same thing as you: working in the marketing department in the sports industry! I love this idea. I have the ESPN app on my phone now, which allows me to get the scores for any game I wish and even stream it live, however, it does not offer high school sports. As a huge athlete in high school, I still follow my high school's sports closely so I think this would be awesome to have! 2. Hi Leigha,

This is a great idea! When my brother and I were in high school my mom was always looking up scores for our teams and our rival teams, this app would help parents like mine exponentially. It would also help you keep tabs on your favorite college or professional teams instead of having to google what was happening. I really think this app could grow a huge following, as it has all sports levels and teams in one place! Great job. 3. Leigha,

This is a really great idea! I'm also a big sports fan, and often times I find myself Googling for scores of games, or asking Siri, and she tells me the score of their 2012 matchup or something crazy like that haha I believe that this app could be beneficial to a lot of people! The addition of the high school aspect would definitely differentiate you from ESPN or Bleacher Report, so great job there! Overall, this seems like a great concept! It would be difficult to keep track of all of the high school scores, however, if you could somehow get the regional directors in each area around the US to send you the scores, that would solve your problem! Finally, I would say that just staying in the US for now, as you're starting out, is a good call. In the long run, I would not discount expanding out into the rest of the world. Just a thought! 4. Great Idea Leigha,

Although I must admit that I'm not a HUGE fan of sports I can say thanks to the way you wrote this that I understand how major fans will benefit from this. Keeping track of your favorite team/player is always important. This can also be used by other people (such as scouts) for recruiting purposes. Great job!
